About Us

Yah Aya is an inspired African jewelry company that celebrates the vast history and culture of the continent. The journey began unexpectedly in 2016 when the founders Michelle, an elementary school teacher, and her husband Malaphi, a mechanical engineer visited a market in Nairobi, Kenya and designed their first necklace, the Purple Haze Meskel. In 2019 they decided to create a business and named the company after their daughter’s middle names Yahzara and Aya.

To embody the harmonious balance of femininity and masculinity, the pieces are unisex by design and are handcrafted with endless combinations of beads and brasses making the necklaces one of ones. From simple to more complex designs, the necklaces, bracelets and anklets are to compliment the customers individual style bringing Africa home in one piece.
